Ignorance

I avoid talking about politics at all costs because there is never a right answer. I leave politics and religion alone all the way through. I mainly don’t talk about either subject because I don’t pay attention enough to either to present a long case. I know enough to form my own opinion and have a short debate. In the end, though, I know that I’ll get upset because I will think the other person isn’t making sense and want to move on. However….I must make a comment about this whole thing with Ann Coulter. I don’t watch Fox News.  I’m not a Republican or Conservative. I vote Democrat but I would probably be considered more as a Liberal. I’m very open to new ideas and trying something new. I don’t care who is saying it, as long as it’s for the greater good for everyone. Not one group of people. I’m not rich by any means. I’m with the majority of working from paycheck to paycheck; trying to make ends meet so I would think that we need progress for all. Now down to business. I heard a sound bite of Ann Coulter stating the following,
“This is why our blacks are better than their blacks. Because ‘you have fought against probably your family, probably your neighbors…that’s why we have very impressive blacks.”
She was commenting on Herman Cain, a conservative Republican president hopeful who happens to be African American. I don’t have any issues with black Republicans. I want my people to vote no matter what. Our uncles and aunts and cousins died for us to vote so I need my people to vote. I have seen in the past though that our community 9 times out of 10 gets the short, short, SHORT end of the stick. It’s different reasons why but I do not knock Herman Cain or any other black or white Republican. From what I’ve heard past and present, Republicans haven’t said anything that promotes growth and improvement so that’s why I’m not one. I digress. Take away all of that. Take away the politics and all that’s going on in the news. This woman said that their blacks are better than our blacks. Did she think before she said this? I thought black Americans being sold and kept as property legally ended in 1865. I know slavery with physical chains doesn’t exist but to say ‘our blacks are better than theirs’ sound like we’re property or some goods that they’ve bought. To say this with a straight face on national television is just beyond ignorant and ridiculous. That’s fine that she’s showing support for Herman Cain, but what clicked in your head to say ‘our blacks’ and ‘their blacks’? The only good I saw out of this is that I’m finally not the ‘good black’ anymore. For years, I was called “the good black” because I spoke proper or I hung out with all different kinds of people. Now I can honestly say I’m not the “good black” anymore. However, no matter what you agree with politically, don’t be ignorant. What this woman said was ignorant and that’s all I have to say about that (*insert Forrest Gump voice.) Happy living! :)
